Topical Collection Information:

Dear Colleagues,

New sustainable geomaterials, also known as "New Geomaterials" or "NGs", are innovative materials developed to address the need for sustainable and efficient geotechnical structures. They prioritize reducing environmental impact and embracing the principles of a circular economy, often incorporating recycled materials and waste streams. These materials aim to adapt local resources to meet specific engineering needs, minimizing reliance on virgin materials and reducing the carbon footprint of construction and infrastructure.

This Topical Collection aims to collect recent advances in the following areas: Sustainable materials and eco-innovation, Circular economy and industrial by-product valorization, Geopolymers and green construction materials, Mine waste reuse and resource recovery, Waste management and pollution mitigation, Blue economy and sustainable maritime infrastructure, Bridging science, society, and policy for sustainability.

Special focus on a) Geomaterials for a sustainable economy: advancements in the state-of-the-art, innovative characterization, and cutting-edge applications; b) solutions that foster the responsible and sustainable use of geo-resources, integrating socioeconomic and environmental perspectives throughout the lifecycle of resources, from the prospecting of raw materials to waste recycling.
