Topical Collection Information:

Dear Colleagues,

The growing demand for sustainable infrastructure and resilient urban environments has accelerated the adoption of smart materials and emerging technologies in the retrofitting of aging or vulnerable buildings. This Topical Collection aims to showcase cutting-edge research and developments in the design, application, and performance of advanced materials and systems for structural strengthening and rehabilitation.

We welcome contributions that explore innovative solutions, such as fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, nanomaterial-modified adhesives, and intelligent monitoring technologies, that offer enhanced mechanical performance, durability, and sustainability. Emphasis is placed on studies that integrate experimental, numerical, and life cycle assessment (LCA) approaches to evaluate the effectiveness and environmental impact of retrofitting systems.

By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across materials science, structural engineering, and sustainability research, this collection seeks to provide a comprehensive resource for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers interested in future-ready retrofitting technologies. Both original research papers and critical reviews are welcome.
