Topical Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

Considering escalating urbanization and its consequent strain on the natural world, this special issue compels a deeper exploration of urban ecology – the scientific discipline dedicated to unraveling the intricate relationship between human-built environments and ecological processes. We recognize the urgent need to bridge the widening gap between human development and the natural world, and posit that urban ecology offers a powerful lens through which to achieve this aim. By soliciting contributions from a diverse range of experts – researchers, policymakers, and practitioners alike – we endeavor to cultivate a rich tapestry of knowledge. This special issue seeks to assemble a comprehensive collection of innovative approaches, empirically grounded studies, and novel theoretical frameworks. Ultimately, our objective is to illuminate the path towards the development of more ecologically sound and resilient cities – vibrant urban centers where human well-being flourishes in harmony with a thriving natural world. Through this collaborative effort, we envision a future where sustainable urban environments become the norm, emphasizing a symbiotic relationship between humanity and the natural world.
