Topical Collection Information
Dear Colleagues,
As the global population grows rapidly and urbanization accelerates, land use change has become a key factor affecting the urban environment. Urban expansion not only alters the physical structure of the surface but also has profound effects on ecosystems, socio-economic conditions, and human well-being. This special issue is dedicated to exploring the multi-dimensional impacts of land use change on the urban environment and seeking effective response strategies.
Urbanization has led to a reduction in agricultural land, natural landscapes, and open spaces, which has had negative impacts on biodiversity, ecosystem services, and urban climate. Issues such as urban heat island effect, air quality degradation, and water scarcity are becoming increasingly severe, threatening the health and quality of life of urban residents. At the same time, socio-economic issues during the urbanization process, such as housing tension, traffic congestion, and social inequality, have also attracted widespread attention. Faced with these challenges, policymakers and urban planners need to find a balance between promoting economic development and protecting the environment. Effective land use planning and management strategies are crucial for mitigating the negative impacts of urbanization. In addition, technological innovation and the application of smart technology also provide new possibilities for optimizing land use and improving the urban environment.
This Special Issue calls for original research articles and review papers, which aim to discuss a deeper understanding of the relationship between land use change and the urban environment, as well as the importance of developing innovative response strategies. We encourage scholars from various disciplines, policymakers, and practitioners to jointly explore this topic, share their research findings and practical experiences, and work towards creating healthier and more sustainable conditions for the urban environment of the future.
