Topical Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is known to us that the climate of the Earth is changing and, as a result, it is impacting extreme weather across the planet. Record-breaking marine & terrestrial heatwaves, flash floods, heavy precipitation events, tropical cyclones, forest fires, urban heat island, landslides, long lasting draught, and coastal inundation are all becoming more frequent and more intense. These events can cause devastating impacts on communities, agricultural and natural ecosystems, and infrastructure. We need to adapt to the changing climate by making our health systems and societies more resilient to extreme weather events. We also need to act to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change to prevent further warming and the intensification of extreme weather events. Strengthening preparedness and resilience to extreme weather events is crucial for protecting lives and property. Further, we need monitoring and responding to extreme weather events. The tropical collection on “Weather and Climate Extremes” encourages the submission of original research papers, comprehensive review articles, and short communications which address the all the weather and climate extremes mentioned above.
