Topical Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

This special issue explores the intersection of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Cognitive Linguistics, emphasizing the integration of cognitive theories in computational models of language. As NLP technologies continue to advance, they increasingly draw upon insights from cognitive linguistics to improve how machines understand and generate human language. Cognitive linguistics offers valuable theories, such as conceptual metaphor theory, construction grammar, and meaning representation, that can enhance the accuracy and depth of language models used in AI systems. The contributions in this issue highlight how cognitive linguistic frameworks can inform various NLP applications, including machine translation, sentiment analysis, and semantic processing. By adopting a cognitive approach, these models better capture the nuances of meaning, context, and word usage in natural language. Moreover, the research featured in this issue delves into how linguistic patterns and cognitive processes can be computationally modeled, paving the way for more human-like language understanding and interaction in AI systems.

This issue aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between cognitive linguistics and computational linguistics, offering new insights into how cognitive models can be applied to NLP technologies. Ultimately, it seeks to demonstrate the potential for bridging cognitive science with machine learning to create more sophisticated, context-aware, and accurate language processing systems that mimic human language understanding more closely.

Manuscript Submission Information:

Please visit the Submissions Guidelines page before submitting a manuscript. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Manuscripts should be submitted online through the online manuscript submission and editorial system. Additionally, please include a cover letter specifying that the manuscript is intended for the Topical Collection "Exploring the Intersections of Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Linguistics: Bridging Cognitive Science with Computational Models" when submitting it online. Manuscripts can be submitted until the submission deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal and will be listed together on the Topical Collection website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract can be sent to the Editorial Office fls@bilpubgroup.com for announcement on this website.

The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 USD.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process.
