Topical Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

This special issue seeks to welcome original research papers, reviews, case studies, meta-analyses, systematic reviews, or position papers on how a FLA may affect in English language education. We aim to identify interventions that are both desirable and practical in various language domains for effective learning. Researchers from everywhere around the world are welcome to submit their work in the following areas of study. In addition, we welcome submissions from disciplines not specifically included here, provided they fall within the scope of the subject:

  • Factors affecting language anxiety
  • Foreign language classroom anxiety on academic performance/ achievement
  • Learners’ coping strategies for foreign language anxiety
  • Second language anxiety and distance language learning/ CALL/online
  • Learners' beliefs and language anxiety in receptive and productive skills
  • The role of epistemological approaches and teaching/learning conceptions
  • Skill apprehension and motivation in the classroom
  • Foreign language enjoyment and foreign language classroom anxiety
  • The emotional and psychological dimensions of foreign language learning
  • Self-regulated learning processes and learners’ language skills
  • Foreign language anxiety and language testing/assessment
  • Multilingualism, sociobiographical, and situational factors on foreign language anxiety
  • Psychoticism and Foreign language classroom anxiety
  • The effect of affect on foreign language learning

Tentative time-table for the call for papers:

Proposed abstract submission: July 15th, 2024

Decision on acceptance of abstracts: August 30th, 2024

Opening of submission portal for full manuscripts: November 20th, 2024

Manuscript Submission Information:

Please visit the Submissions Guidelines page before submitting a manuscript. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Manuscripts should be submitted online through the online manuscript submission and editorial system. Additionally, please include a cover letter specifying that the manuscript is intended for the Topical Collection "Affective Reactions and Foreign Language Anxieties: Focus on Debilitating Anxiety" when submitting it online. Manuscripts can be submitted until the submission deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal and will be listed together on the Topical Collection website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract can be sent to the Editorial Office fls@bilpubgroup.com for announcement on this website.

The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 USD.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process.
