Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change Management: Global Evidence, Effectiveness, and Policy Directions

Abstract

Community-Based Adaptation has emerged as a vital approach to addressing the local impacts of climate change Management , particularly in vulnerable communities. This review examines the development, efficacy, and policy implications of Community-Based Adaptation, with a focus on its contribution to resilience and transformative adaptation. Community-Based Adaptation works with communities to design and implement climate adaptation strategies tailored to local contexts through the integration of local knowledge, community empowerment, and participatory decision-making. Although Community-Based Adaptation has proved successful in areas such as agriculture, water management, and disaster risk reduction, issues of scalability, financial sustainability, and social equity have been problematic. The review addresses how Community-Based Adaptation can be involved in transformative adaptation by addressing the cause of the vulnerability, such as social and economic inequalities. It further emphasizes the need to incorporate Community-Based Adaptation in the national and global strategies of climate change, long-term support, and inclusive governance. This review, in the end, offers a broad framework of the future development of Community-Based Adaptation as a fundamental aspect of climate resilience, providing policy ideas to maximize and maintain local adaptation activities.
