Abstract

Ecological engineering is an interdisciplinary field that integrates ecological principles with engineering solutions to address environmental degradation, enhance sustainability, and promote ecosystem restoration. Ecological engineering in the Anthropocene, marked by the high rate of climate change, degradation of biodiversity, and exploitation of natural resources, presents radical solutions to the recovery of ecosystems, the creation of new bio-resources, and the creation of adaptive technologies. The area of ecological restoration, bio-resource innovation, and technological advancement is intersected in this review, and the combination of these elements is examined as the key to resilient and sustainable ecology. The new directions, including synthetic ecology, precision ecology, and climate-adaptive engineering, are addressed, along with the opportunities and challenges that they bring. Future research directions, technological frontiers, and the role of governance in promoting ecological engineering are also brought out in the review. Combining restoration and the latest technologies and environmentally conscious management of resources, ecological engineering is the right way to reduce the risks of environmental disasters and create a more sustainable future. This review synthesizes current knowledge across these interconnected domains, emphasizing how interdisciplinary collaboration, adaptive management strategies, and supportive policy frameworks can accelerate the transition toward a circular bioeconomy and climate-resilient ecosystems. Ultimately, ecological engineering offers a transformative pathway for reconciling human development with ecological integrity in the Anthropocene.
